APPLIANCE TIPS

Appliances are the most important part in your new kitchen. It is the very first thing that you should select before you begin planning your cabinetry. Over the years appliances have become more and more complex and we want to make sure you understand the basic differences. Their look and function can be broken into these four categories.

FREESTANDING

This is the oldest and most common type of appliance. It sits between cabinets or by itself and doesn't require building into the cabinetry. The most common example of this type of appliance is the washer and dryer.

FRAMED BUILT-IN

This type of appliance is built-in into the cabinetry but is still obvious to the eye. It can be covered with cabinet doors but will still show metal trim.

OVERLAY BUILT-IN

This is similar to the framed built-in in function but allows the doors to cover more of the metal trim on the front on the appliance. It makes the appliance less obvious but the functional use may be affected, particularly door swing ability. It also allows for custom handles.

FULLY INTEGRATED

This is the best appliance for building into cabinetry for seamless integration. They feature special hinging for door swing clearances and are always designed to received door paneling on the face and custom handles.

Picking the right appliances for your kitchen and your budget is important. The average appliance lasts over fifteen years so it is an investment decision. We have provided links to the most popular brands below. We urge you to do as much research as possible.
